Dave b's VXR Powered Gsi Diary

Just had a good read through all this... Your workshop coming along nicely mate.. Now for the hard work on the body of the astra though... i mean you think its bad now... wait till you take them skirts etc off... jesus they reveal some serious ****, ive been there done that lol Hopefully never again (if i ever drive it) lol

yea i'm expecting it to get alot worse before it gets better, but im just gonna get close to a bare shell rebuild and start again, prolly won't be at any of the shows next year thou cause of it :(, the list of stuff i need to do is truely massive, my head lining is sagging so much at the sun roof it nearly touches the head rests lol. but to do the body work, the interior will need stripping anyway. i want to paint all the door shuts aswell, boot shut, bonnet shut, engine need to come out etc. gonna definatly take alot of time and love, so i think im gonna keep it on the road untill the weather turns bad, then refund the insurance, garage policy and go from there. by the time that comes around the workshop should be up and running, had a massive clear out in the garage tonight, including the wasps nest. their all dead thank god. the hoover makes short work of all the bodies :bounce:

i'll update with some pictures tomorrow, the bucket seat from the track day really suits the car :tape:

uh o lol

first things first thou, gonna do a full respray on the megane :tape: that's gonna be a good challenge! Once the workshop is done, get the megane is there, strip all the panels off door etc, spray them first, then spray the shell. Gonna be a pretty big project I reckon

going a different colour, the body work is in quite a bad way, especially the passenger door and both door seals. amy really has her heart set on a different colour so i'll see what happens. should be going a different colour, but its not 100% so i'll keep it to myself for a bit lol

Yeh i know what you mean mate.. you think you get somewhere.. and them boom... you find more rust.. i took all carpets out etc.. have a look through my diary im sure the pictures are still on there lol. Went crazy with it all... Just insured the GSi again so hopefully gonna get it mot'd over the next couple of weeks and give it a well deserved blast until something else breaks on it lol.

Dave, I meant to ask you at billing but slipped my mind; what gearbox and clutch do you run on your leh? And what sort of linkage? Reason I ask now is that my linkage cables are knackered in the mk4 with the f23 and the leh

yea tom, f28 but with a mk4 clutch and mk5 flywheel. clutch i run is from courtney sport, helix organic clutch and apart from alot of clutch judder, its a very good clutch, no slip at all

So in theory, you could wap an f17 and linkage from a 1.8 sxi mk4 on an leh. Obviously it wouldn't last. But they all mate to the engine the same?

car cover on and all done :( gonna miss driving it like mad!

Well I've just spend probably about 2 days all in reading this from start to finish, and all I can say it wow! The ups and downs you've had with your car espically the engine and still had the drive and motivation to keep going and get her to exactly how you want it is just incredible, a bit credit and respect for that! Seeing the little touches you've done to yours has given me so serious ideas for mine, although with it being a daily she will never be up to your standards! Would love to see this in the flesh!

Wait until you see dave in the flesh you'll forget about the car!
It is a beautiful motor though.
One day it'll come out of the shed even better

hi buddy, all i can say is thankyou very much! i love that people still take the time to read my diary, i love looking back through it every so often to see where i have come from to where i am going to! it really is a never ending story though! i do like the fact i influence people though, i got my ideas from somewhere, or thought them up! when people copy its a big compliment to say the least.
but i'm still the only person running an leh in a mk3 in the uk
